Almost forgot how good road salt can taste

After all the brutal cold spells in Massachusetts, not to mention the ice storms and snow storms, it was great to have a little “spring-like” weather today, even if that meant just a brief pop into the low 40s.

The roads were narrow and dirty, the cars a little impatient and unforgiving, but the sun was shining and it was good to get outside. Cycling indoors at spin classes and on trainers is all well and good, but there’s nothing like getting out on the road, even if that means an occasional mouthfull of road salt or splash of dirty water. The cleanup is no fun, either, but that will come later…. probably shouldn’t have taken my good bike out today, but couldn’t resist.
Getting outside was good motivation too for the upcoming Harpoon Indoor Time Trial, where I have three specific goals:
1. Show up
2. Ride hard
3. Try not to throw up. Though Jonathan Vaughter’s ride ’till you vomit training technique seems to be very effective, it’s just too early in the season.
The Harpoon Indoor Time Trial will be a good early goal to get on track for the Harpoon Brewery to Brewery ride in June, my major goal for the season. Both are looking like pretty cool events.
