New England Velodrome has launched its 2007 season

For the past four years Tony Eberhardt has worked hard to bring back track racing to the region and the New England Velodrome in Londonderry, NH (just about an hour from Boston) is his latest iteration of this ongoing venture.

Staffed with seasoned coaches and a deep stable of loaner track bikes, the facility is starting to draw a crowd. I went up this week to check it out, and what a great time it was. NEV is running a series of training nights this month and has loads of loaner bikes, so it was easy to give it a go.

Having never been on a fixed gear bike before or in a velodrome, I was a bit nervous. Tony and the folks up there were very inviting and encouraging, and soon enough I was doing laps and even practicing starts for the “kilo” (a one kilometer track time trial). It’s really a lot of good fun. Go check it out. All the details are posted on the track’s web site www.leadcycling.com.
